Clear evidence emerged recently that several major construction companies had been blacklisting workers for trade union activity. Under the Employment Relations Act 1999, the government has the power to introduce regulations prohibiting the blacklisting of workers for their union membership or activities, and now finally, the Government has indicated that after a short consultation it will legislate in the autumn.
LRC Chair John McDonnell MP has been at the forefront of the campaign against blacklisting, and in early May hosted a lobby of Parliament by hundreds of construction workers (see Youtube video below). John had also tabled EDM 1357 ‘Blacklisting in Construction Industry’, ask your MP to sign up.
