Nuclear go-ahead undermines government's so-called green credentials

In response to the government's approval of a new generation of nuclear power stations, John McDonnell MP said:

“This decision will come as a huge disappointment to anyone concerned over the environment and climate change. It is entirely short-sighted as the world's uranium resources will be exhausted within 50 years according to the Government's own estimates.

“This new programme of developing expensive and dangerous nuclear energy flies in the faces of our supposed commitment to tackling climate change. Renewable resources and decentralised energy offer the potential to provide safe and environmentally friendly power, whilst also meeting Britain's energy needs.”
