LRC welcomes Catalyst report on public ownership of Rail

The Labour Representation Committee (LRC) today welcomed the publication of the Catalyst report ‘The Railways in a Third Term’, which states the overwhelming case for public ownership of the railways, as voted for at Labour Party conference 2004.

John McDonnell MP, Chair of the LRC, welcomed the report, saying:

“This report gives the Government concrete advice on exactly how to bring rail back into public ownership, and to avoid any further draining of public resources into private pockets.

The logic of taking rail back into public ownership is inescapable. This is a policy which would be extremely popular with the public, and Labour Party members and supporters”

Maria Exall, LRC vice chair, said:

“The LRC welcomes the Catalyst report on the future of the railways. The restoration of public ownership of rail is one of seven key pledges the LRC is demanding from a future Labour Government.

The shambles of privatised rail services is apparent to everyone and it is time for the Government to abide by Labour Party policy and take rail back under public control. Public ownership of the railways is supported throughout the movement and makes sense as this report shows.”

Jeremy Corbyn MP, said:

“Logic and the rest of world are moving inexorably towards public ownership of the railways. It is about time that Alistair Darling recognised a juggernaut when he sees one.”

The LRC is also welcoming the RMT ‘Rail Against Privatisation’ campaign, which will be publicly launched today at 11 am on Westminster Bridge, and will march the length of the UK, to promote the overwhelming case for the public ownership of the railways.
