Labour Left Launch Manifesto Bid To Box in Blair
In a coordinated campaign between Trade Unions, local Constituency Labour Parties, Socialist MPs and grassroots activists, the Labour Left will be moving to box Blair into a corner over Labour's General Election Manifesto at next week's Labour Party Conference.
Building on the successes at the party's National Policy Forum in Warwick in July, the left will be attempting to ensure that a number of key policies are included in Labour's election programme:
- Renationalisation of Rail
- Direct Investment in Council Housing
- Restoration of Trade Union Rights
- Withdrawal of Troops from Iraq
John McDonnell MP, Chair of the LRC and Socialist Campaign Group of Labour MPs, said:
“There is a widespread demand within the Labour Movement for policy change.”
“Our aim is to transform discussion at this conference from gossip and manipulation about who will inherit the ruler's crown into a real discussion about the policies Labour needs to win back our disillusioned supporters.”
“The Labour Representation Committee will be using every avenue available at conference and on the fringe to force votes and ensure meaningful discussion on every key issue we face.”
“We should remember that this is our conference not theirs - and it is our Manifesto.”
