Public Service Not Private Profit - Launch and Rally

Launched at a packed meeting in the House of Commons on 29th March 2006, the Public Services Not Private Profit campaign currently has the support of thirteen trade unions representing over one million workers.

The launch heard from trade union leaders representing workers across the public sector who shared the experiences of the devastating effects that privatisation and marketisation has had for public services, the communities they serve and for the workforce.

As PCS General Secretary Mark Serwotka noted at the campaign launch, trade unions have repeatedly found themselves winning the argument but losing the battle against privatisation.

This campaign endeavours to link together the struggles of each union and to push public ownership back on to the political agenda at a time when New Labour, the Tories and the Liberals are committed to auctioning off the public sector to the highest bidder.

It will challenge the various manifestations of creeping privatisation - including PFI/PPP, outsourcing, and contestability - that are wasting billions of pounds of public funds, downgrading services and slashing pay and conditions for public sector workers.

There will be a Lobby of Parliament on Tuesday 27th June at Methodist Central Hall, Westminster from 12pm. Be there to lobby your MP for Public Services Not Private Profit!
