NEW LABOUR IS DEAD ! SOCIALIST POLICIES NEEDED !
Guest Speaker: Marshajane Thompson (LRC National Committee and Unison United Left)
The Labour Party was originally founded in 1900 by the trade unions as the “Labour Representation Committee” to represent the interests of working people. The modern LRC, founded in 2004, aims to recapture that vision of the Labour Party as a vehicle for working people and the labour movement.
For this reason, the LRC backs John McDonnell for leader of the Labour Party. As Parliamentary Convenor of the Trade Union Coordinating Group and Chair of the Socialist Campaign Group, John has consistently voted against the New Labour policies of privatisation, war, and anti-union legislation that has seen Labour lose millions of votes since 1997. In his constituency of Hayes and Harlington, John won as a Labour candidate standing on a socialist platform, with 54.8% of the vote. From losing by less than a 100 votes in 1992 he has increased his majority to 12,000 this year - despite the national swing and adverse boundary changes.
Come and discuss the Labour leadership contest with us, and how workers, trade unionists, and socialists can resist the attacks and cuts that we are facing from the new government.
