NO CUTS! NO CLOSURES!
NO REDUNDANCIES!
Brent Council will be deciding on its budget for the coming year. This budget will include savage cuts in jobs and services. It is likely to include the closure of several libraries, day centres, the Charteris Sports Centre, and the Welsh Harp Education Centre. It will mean drastic cuts in Special Education Needs, the loss of the school crossing staff and hundreds of other jobs and much more. The ConDem government has cut about £100 million from the grant to Brent over 4 years, hoping they will take the blame for the cuts. But opposition to the cuts is growing – we have seen big meetings against the closure of libraries and Sports Centres. Brent’s Labour Council should be standing with all those campaigns, not asking them which service to cut instead. Brent Fightback calls on all the campaigns around jobs and services to stand together and to demand that Brent Council stand with us in refusing to do the government’s bidding.
